Reportedly the oldest home still standing in Georgiana, AL. Georgiana's founder, the Rev. Pitt S. Milner, built this home sometime between 1858 and 1861. Folklore says that it was the inspiration for Hank Williams song "The Mansion on the Hill." Built of local heart pine, this 4,400 sq ft house is a typical example of the stately structures rural Southern settlers and planters built. Situated back off of the road, the property offers lots of privacy with a little over two acres of old-growth azaleas, camellias, magnolias, and oaks. A front porch extends across the entire front of the house, and its roof is supported by two main columns. The upstairs balcony was enclosed as a screened porch, but the historical photos show how it was originally built. Lovely double doors lead you into a wide foyer that spans the length of the house. Downstairs includes the wide foyer, a living room, dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms, one full bath, one half bath, and a mud room. Upstairs includes an additional wide foyer, a full kitchen, three bedrooms, one full bath, and a storage room that could be converted into another bedroom. From Greenville, travel S on US Hwy 31 (Mobile Rd) toward G'ana for approx 16 miles. Continue into Georgiana on S Palmer Ave. Turn onto Jane Ave and proceed to 200 S Jane Ave.
